The way teachers are portrayed in the movies can provide us with fascinating insights into how our profession is perceived. This analyses how both “good” and “bad” teachers predominate in Hollywood with their corresponding tropes and stereotypes. Using less-known examples from the cinema, we will analyse on-screen teachers can present us with more inspiring and sympathetic role models. We will focus in particular on how teachers can encourage learners to develop their own voice and provide their own answers.
